Your Questions, Answered

  • Native gardens conserve water, support pollinators and wildlife, improve soil health, and are uniquely adapted to our local climate. When designed and selected appropriately, native plants require far less chemical intervention, water and maintenance, and create spaces that feel grounded, intentional, and deeply connected to place.

  • We offer California native landscape design, plant sourcing, installation coordination, hands-on garden consultations, pollinator parkway conversions, turf replacement, rebate program assistance, and ongoing maintenance/aftercare. Projects range from personalized stewardship sessions to full garden transformations rooted in habitat restoration, water conservation, and fire-conscious planting.

  • Our primary focus is California native plants. In some cases, we may incorporate a small number of non-native, non-invasive plants when they support the overall function and goals of the space or at the clients request. Commonly selected non-natives are citrus/fruit trees and edibles, which we love to work with!

  • Installation is completed either by a trusted contractor or by homeowners themselves, depending on the scope of the project and client needs. We remain closely involved throughout the process to ensure the design vision and plant health are carried through properly.

  • We are based in San Diego and currently serve most areas within San Diego County. Design-only services may be available outside this area—feel free to reach out to discuss.

  • Every project is unique. Each investment differs and depends on size, plant selection, and scope. After an initial consultation, you’ll receive a detailed estimate outlining all costs clearly and transparently.

  • Design timelines typically range from 1–3 weeks. Installation timelines vary depending on project size, contractor and materials availability, and weather. Native gardens establish over time—your garden’s beauty will evolve as it grows.

  • Native gardens are an investment in the future. While they may look more sparse initially, they fill in beautifully over time, especially after the first 3-6 months. Think of it as watching an ecosystem grow, not installing instant decor.

  • Not at all. When designed intentionally, native gardens are resilient, balanced, and surprisingly low-maintenance. They may look different than traditional lawns, but they are deeply functional and alive with movement and seasonal change. Maintenance needs are individual to each client and garden, but you could expect to have maintenance as infrequently as 2-6 times per year once plants are established and healthy. Goodbye weekly lawn services!

  • Yes we do! Maintenance is arguably the most important aspect regarding a native garden to ensure its success in both the establishment and successional phases. We offer specialized stewardship and aftercare services to ensure your garden thrives long-term and continues supporting local wildlife, all while looking beautiful year-round.
